Eventually Samsung joined the smart watch party. The Korean company announced the smart watch under the name Galaxy Gear in the IFA tech show Berlin. I think a new war between smartwatches just started. This is the first attempt by Samsung of getting rid of Sony's Smartwatch 2 which Sony unveiled with Xperia Z1. So things are just beginning to heat up. Is the Samsung Galaxy Gear the best smartwatch ever? Let's find out...
Samsung Galaxy Gear is a well designed watch and is more imposing as compared to the Sony's Smartwatch 2. It has a larger 1.63 inches OLED display with a sharp resolution of 320 x 320 and it has more pixel count plus brighter colors which helps it triumph the SW2. Samsung Galaxy Gear is a heavy watch weighing 2.6 ounces but surprisingly it's more comfortable and doesn't feel that heavy because of the rubber made strap which gives the device the comfortable feel. Samsung Galaxy Gear uses the silver metallic flair which looks luxurious. Samsung will launch the watch is six different colors which include jet black, Gray, orange, lime green, oatmeal beige and golden.
Samsung Galaxy Gear is an impressive watch, it allows you make calls right from your wrist. But disappointingly at the time of its launch the device will only be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Anyways the watch has a built-in microphone and a speaker. Talking about the UI, Samsung Galaxy Gear has an impressive user interface. The fonts are vivid and easy to read and with the on-board 4GB storage you can install some useful apps. The Samsung Galaxy Gear has specially treated OS and comes with useful pre-installed apps.
Samsung Galaxy Gear has a 1.9MP shooter which can shoot 720p videos. Coming to the connectivity the device offers NFC for fast file transfer and Bluetooth version 4.0. The Android powered wearable device is powered by an 800MHz processor and has a battery life of more than 24 hours. The watch isn't fully water-proof but it can resist a few drops of water as said by Samsung. The rubbery strap makes the device more durable. Samsung Galaxy Gear has a steep price tag of $299. This is an intriguing tools with a lot of specs. I must say this is a nice attempt by the Koreans.
