The IFA brought many devices one of them is the Sony's next wearable device, the smartwatch 2. This time the Smartwatch has a strong competitor the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Both the device are well designed and there's is a great competition between them. Let's find out whether the SW2 is competitive to the Galaxy Gear or not...

Sony Smartwatch 2 has small but attractive design just like its predecessor had. It has a strong resemblance to its predecessor. Sony's previous smartwatch was light weight and had a solid reputation. SW2 is also extremely light weighing only 0.8 ounce. The display of the SW2 is almost square measuring 1.65 inches tall and 1.61 inches wide and has a resolution of 220 x 175 and uses transflective LCD panel. The display isn't the brightest and not as vibrant as the one on Galaxy Gear. There is silicone strap used along with an aluminium body which gives the device solid and premium look. Sony hasn't announced the color scheme of the device, but you can expect it in multiple colors.

Sony Smartwatch brings many improvements but the user interface isn't altered much. It almost has the same UI which its predecessor had. Sony Smartwatch 2 is compatible with most of the Android smartphones which is a huge advantage over the Galaxy Gear which only works with Samsung Galaxy Note 3. You can't conduct calls using the smartwatch as it lacks microphone and speaker. There is big button on the side of the watch just like the most of the Xperia devices have. The smartwatch 1 had a long 3 to 4 days battery life. Sony claims that the SW2 also has a battery life of 3 to 4 days and 14 hours with continual use. Sony Smartwatch 2 also features NFC, so that you can share anything by just double taping on the screen.

The Sony Smartwatch 2 is IP57 certified and can go beyond 3 feets under water up to 30 minutes, so the durability isn't an issue. The SW2's design is more compact and sleek than the Galaxy Gear, but the unchanged UI is questionable. Samsung Galaxy Gear is definitely better than the SW2 with brighter, larger and vibrant display but it only connects with one device Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which will immensely decrease its chances to trump the SW2. On the other hand the SW2 has a universal Android functionality and will cost about $199, while the Samsung Galaxy Gear has a price tag of $299. So with support for more Android devices and a low price tag the SW2 definitely has the upper hand over the Galaxy Gear. It's availability date hasn't confirmed yet.
